This Is Really What I wanna Say Right Now!!!

I’ve found this info on a message board about the Borneo Rose. I wanna share it, because I’m getting this tattoo done on my shoulders next weekend.

For starters, there is no "Borneo tribe"!!!! There are many different tribes, some of which practice tattooing, and some that don’t. Among many, there are the kayan, kenyah, kelabit, murut, berawan, penan, iban etc etc…The tribe that are the most prominent at tattooing are the Iban. This is where the bunga teruong, or "borneo rose" comes from.

The spirals in the middle are meant to symbolise the life cycle. Some villages say that it originally came from the spirals on the belly of tadpoles, and when you actually go find a tadpole as i have done, you can see this pattern. The bunga teruong is supposed to guard the wearer from evil spirits. Some of the other tattoos on different parts of the body are for different purposes. They used to tattoo the hands if they were headhunters. The bunga teruong should always be done in pairs. They can be on the back, buttocks, shoulders and/or chest. NEVER, should they be done singularly. They are supposed to protect both sides of the body from evil. Just getting one would be silly. As to the number of petals; whilst they are all from the Iban or Dayak tribe, different villages would have slightly different designs

The meaning behind Haida Tattoos

The name “Haida” is derived from the word “Hidery” meaning “the people.” The Haida tribe is considered one of the oldest traceable populations in the New World. The Haida are the native people of the west coast of North America. Politically the Haida are acknowledged in Canada as being a First Nation people. Their ancestral language is the Haida language, which is now extremely endangered. Haidas are frequently referred to as fearsome warriors.

Most Haida objects are decorated with crests — figures of animals, birds, sea creatures and mythic beings — that immediately identify the moiety (Raven or Eagle) and often the lineage of the owner. Haida have almost seventy crest figures, less than a score are in general use. The Haida culture believes that the great spirit, “Ne-kilst-Lass” created the world. This spirit takes on the form of a Raven. The Raven is responsible for creating the world. Although most impressively expressed in large monumental totem poles, highly disciplined design is applied to a wide range of materials, including the human body through tattooing.

Haida society is divided into two groupings, one called Raven and the other Eagle. There are a variety of subgroups that fall into either of these ‘moieties’. The moieties and their subgroups of Clans, or matrilineal lineages, own unique combinations of crests and other intellectual properties such as songs and names often expressed in haidan tattoos. Tattoos were put on the thighs, chest, shoulders, forearms, backs of the hands and even all of the sections of fingers.

Actually I have a Haida Eagle tattoo on my back. This tattoo means Honour. Strength. Leadership. Wisdom. Eagle is seen as a symbol of both power and prestige as well as a harbinger of peace and friendship. Eagle is one of the two main crests of the Haida. Symbolizes courage and bringing to light. Eagle also has a strong connection to harmony.

I Know I’been out for a while, but since I don’t think that anybody read this blog but you, I’d like to say thank you for taking your time to read this, and having me with so much patience. Anyway, here I am again with nothig to say (I believe). Last weekend I felt the need to start studying French. Many time in the past I felt avocated to start doing so, but like most of the time, It remains just as a project in my mind.

I think French is a very delicous language, similar to Spanish, but since I’m trying to improve my english aswell, I’m taking an English-to-French course, and it’s been really fun to do so. So far I’ve took three lesson which by the way you can find at www.frenchecole.com, look for the podcasts and the pdf file, starting at the first post, which I think was posted on January last year.

Beside that, I can say I’m closer than ever to santity (LOL), seriously, I can’t explain why my life it’s like a sinus wave, sometimes it’s up, and sometimes it’s down, sometimes I’m a complete mess and sometimes I’m just a “goody-two-shoes”. I’m not saying that’s bad or good, but it’s like changing my mind every once in a while, and the worst of all, is that I feel comfortable being up or down in the sinus wave.

I haven’t come to a conclusion yet, maybe it’s because I’m still trying to find my self, but at 31 is it normal??. Dunno, I’ll tell you later.
